Dr Iruthisham presents credentials to IMO Secretary-General

Dr Iruthisham Adam, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), formally presented her Letter of Credence to IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Antonio Domínguez Velasco at a ceremony held on Friday at the IMO headquarters in London.

During the official presentation, High Commissioner Dr Iruthisham conveyed greetings from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to deepening its engagement with the IMO. She also highlighted the Government's dedication to enhancing national capacity in maritime affairs through active participation in the Organisation's initiatives.

Secretary-General Domínguez Velasco welcomed the High Commissioner to her new role and reiterated the IMO's continued support for the Maldives across key areas of mutual interest.

The High Commissioner was accompanied at the ceremony by Deputy High Commissioner Mohamed Ahmed, First Secretary Mariyam Asif, and First Secretary Sara Khalid of the High Commission of Maldives to the United Kingdom.

The International Maritime Organisation is a specialised agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping. It was established on March 17, 1948 and currently has 174 Member States and 3 Associate Members. The Maldives joined the IMO on May 31, 1967.

Dr Iruthisham is the second Permanent Representative of the Maldives to be accredited to the IMO since the country became a Member State.
