The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) is conducting its largest-ever internal elections today, marking a significant milestone in the party’s history.

With 33,500 members eligible to vote, polling is being held nationwide across all atolls in the Maldives from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This election aims to strengthen the party’s grassroots leadership by filling key positions.

Numerous posts are up for contention, including constituency presidents and vice-presidents, leaders of youth and women’s movements, and members of steering committees.

Polling stations have been set up in schools across the islands to facilitate the voting process. In Male’, voting is taking place at Dharubaaruge, while Rehendi School and Muhyiddin School have been designated for Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ constituencies, respectively.

The PNC has noted that in several islands, certain posts have been filled unopposed, thereby reducing the number of contested roles. The nomination process, which began on 11 September, concluded on 24 October, setting the stage for today’s elections.
