Bank of Maldives (BML) has revealed that more than 87 million transactions were carried out using its cards last year.
The figures, shared as part of the bank’s 2024 Review on social media, highlight the scale of card usage across the country. According to BML, the majority of transactions (55 million) were conducted via point-of-sale (POS) machines at local businesses.
ATM usage accounted for the second-highest volume, with 14 million transactions processed. A further 9 million transactions were made using BML cards outside the Maldives.
The bank also reported that MVR 9 million worth of transactions were carried out through online platforms, reflecting growing engagement with e-commerce among customers.
BML, which operates the largest banking network in the Maldives, is continuing efforts to expand financial services nationwide. As part of its ongoing ATM installation project, the bank has completed work on all inhabited islands in five atolls.
With the continued rollout of ATM services to more islands, the number of card transactions is expected to rise further in 2025.
