Maldives wins World's Leading Green Destination Award for the first time

Maldives has received the 'World's Leading Green Destination Award' at the 31st annual World Travel Awards 2024, held in Madeira, Portugal. This marks the first time the country has won this award.
Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal accepted the award at the ceremony alongside Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)'s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree.
Minister Faisal emphasised that this accomplishment was the collective effort of everyone in the industry, expressing his deep gratitude to them.
According to the Ministry of Tourism's post on X, this historic achievement reflects the Maldives' steadfast commitment to protecting its natural environment and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
Maldives won against other nominees including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Madagascar, Norway, Peru, and St Vincent & The Grenadines.
The World Travel Awards has been the travel industry's leading honours programme since its establishment in 1993, celebrating outstanding achievements across tourism, hospitality and travel sectors worldwide.
