President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced via his official X account that achieving a drug-free Maldives is among the Government's highest priorities, following a massive drug seizure operation in Maldivian waters on Sunday.

According to his statement, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) intercepted narcotics worth MVR 1 billion (468.6 kilogrammes).

The President's statement demonstrates his Administration's commitment to maritime security and law enforcement, alongside its focus on anti-drug trafficking measures.

The announcement comes amidst a series of successful operations by the MNDF, which has shown increased effectiveness in protecting territorial waters. Earlier this month, they successfully intercepted another fishing vessel attempting to illegally enter Maldivian waters using drone technology.
