The Zakat Fund has received its highest-ever contributions this year, surpassing MVR 90 million, according to Islamic Affairs Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Speaking to PSM News on its 'Hafthaa 52' programme, Dr Shaheem praised the milestone as a significant accomplishment for the country’s religious sector, and expressed optimism that the fund could reach MVR 100 million by the end of the year.

"This is a major achievement under the Government's leadership," he said.

The Zakat Fund is used to assist vulnerable members of society, including those in financial distress, students, and individuals requiring medical care.

Dr Shaheem also emphasised the importance of investing portions of the fund in Sharia-compliant ventures to enhance its growth and impact.

The Government has established 'Maldives Zakat House' to manage the collection and distribution of zakat, maintain coordination with relevant authorities, and ensure the welfare of those in need. It will also work towards the sustainable development of the fund to maximise its benefits for society.
