President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted a motion to Parliament today, nominating former Chairman of Elections Commission, Fuad Thaufeeq, as the Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand.

Under the Foreign Service Act, ambassadors are appointed by the President with the approval of the Parliament.

Fuad’s career with the Elections Commission began in 2008, when he first joined as a member. In 2009, he was appointed Chairman of the Commission, a position he held until March 2014, when he resigned. He returned to the Commission for a second term in 2019.

One of the longest-serving members of the Elections Commission, Fuad has made significant contributions as the Chairman.

He also played an important role in the Commission during the Maldives' first multi-party presidential election.
