Local NGO Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) unveiled its HOPE Campaign website yesterday to help combat child abuse through community education and support. The launch coincided with World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse and World Children's Day.
Speaking at the event, ARC's Managing Director Muruthala Moosa called for urgent action against child abuse, stating, "Every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment, free from violence, exploitation, and neglect."
According to ARC, the website offers educational resources and practical tools for identifying and reporting abuse, whilst providing support for survivors.
The initiative was funded by Asima Abdul Gadir through the Australian Alumni Small Grants, with support from UNICEF and the Maldives Police Service. The launch took place during a UNICEF photo exhibition showcasing the Maldives through children's perspectives.
The HOPE Campaign aims to mobilise individuals, families, and communities to create safer environments for children.
Members of the public can report cases of child abuse through the Child Helpline at 1412.
