The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has launched a ‘Migrant Worker Resource Centre’ aimed at streamlining the process for foreign workers in the Maldives to file complaints and report grievances.
The centre was officially inaugurated by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Regional Director, Iyori Kato.
In addition, a dedicated portal named "Migrant Connect" has been launched to assist foreign workers in submitting complaints. The portal was also inaugurated by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, State Minister of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Dr Abdulla Fairoosh, emphasised that every foreign worker in the Maldives must be legally protected and that their rights must be fully upheld.
He addressed the pressing issue of the exploitation of migrant workers by some individuals, highlighting concerns such as forcing them to work long hours, exposing them to unsafe working conditions, and withholding essential information about their rights and protections.
These new platforms will empower migrant workers to seek assistance whenever needed, file complaints securely, and advocate for their rights, all while ensuring their privacy is protected.
