Voting has commenced in the People’s National Congress primary to select a candidate for the North Hithadhoo by-election.

Polling is being held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with ballot boxes placed in both North Hithadhoo and Malé to allow registered members to vote from their respective locations.

Members registered in the Hithadhoo constituency for the 2026 Local Council elections are voting in Hithadhoo, while those registered in Malé and other islands are casting their ballots at Kalaafaanu School in Malé.

A total of 727 voters are eligible to participate in the primary, which is being overseen by the party’s election committee.

Former Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Sinan and incumbent councillor Ahmed Saeed are contesting the primary.The candidate chosen through the primary will represent the party in the by-election scheduled by the Elections Commission for 6 June.
