A set of “Bas Card” flashcards developed by the Alimas Institute to support the promotion of the Dhivehi language has been launched by Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed.

The launch took place during the Dhivehi Bahuge Haveeru event held on Friday at the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy in Hulhumalé. The event was attended by Minister Heena Waleed, President of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy Hassan Shakir Mohamed, and senior officials of the Alimas Institute.

The Bas Cards are based on the concept of English flashcards commonly used in language learning, and have been adapted to make learning Dhivehi more accessible and engaging. The institute described the initiative as an important step towards strengthening students’ interest in the language while promoting more interactive learning methods.

The cards are designed for students in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 under the national curriculum. The institute stated that the materials will be particularly useful for primary-level students, helping them build Dhivehi vocabulary and better understand word meanings.
