The Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, has announced that 88.7 per cent of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport project has been completed, with the 2.7-kilometre runway fully finalised. Significant progress has also been made on the passenger terminal (83 per cent) and the fuel farm, which includes air traffic control towers and cargo buildings (96 per cent). The airport, being developed by India’s KPIL with financing from Exim Bank of India, is expected to be completed by September this year.
