President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will review and amend the Drug Act, with plans to submit the revised legislation to Parliament this week. The President made this announcement on his official X account.

In his post, President Dr Muizzu identified the limitations of the current Drug Act as the primary obstacle in combating drug-related crimes. He stated that the Government is set to review and introduce amendments to the Drug Act, in collaboration with the relevant state agencies.

The President also revealed that the Government will submit a new gang-related crimes prevention bill to Parliament within the next two weeks, aimed at curbing gang crimes, which he believes are closely linked to the drug-related crimes.
