The People's Majlis has passed the Third Amendment to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act (Act No. 13/2008), introducing key changes to how the Commission's President and Vice President are selected and supervised.

The bill, which was passed during the 53rd sitting of the 20th People's Majlis held on 25 November and ratified by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, stipulates new requirements for democratic oversight in appointing these senior officials.

Under this Amendment, both President and Vice President appointments must receive approval through a majority vote from attending People's Majlis members.

Similarly, the Amendment establishes clear resignation procedures, requiring written notices, whilst protecting the current President and Vice President of the Commission from being removed without proper cause.

The Amendment will take effect once ratified and published in the Government Gazette, marking a significant update to the Maldives' anti-corruption laws since they were first established in 2008.
