Total operational tourist facilities rise to 1,227 this year

The number of tourist facilities brought into operation in the Maldives so far this year has reached 1,227. This figure represents a 1.7 per cent increase compared to the end of 2024, when the total stood at 1,207.
Data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment shows that the current operational facilities comprise 175 resorts, 877 guesthouses, 159 safari vessels and 16 hotels.
As a result, the total number of beds now available for tourism has reached 64,373. Of these, 44,047 beds are located in resorts, 14,854 in guesthouses, 3,162 on safari vessels and 2,310 in hotels.
The expansion of accommodation capacity coincides with a significant increase in tourist arrivals. So far in 2025, the Maldives has welcomed 1,195,693 visitors. This is a 9.5 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 1,092,367 tourists had arrived.
According to the Ministry, China currently holds the top position among source markets, contributing 163,370 visitors. Russia follows with 139,388 arrivals, and the United Kingdom ranks third with 114,703.
Tourist accommodation preferences further reflect established trends, with 72.8 per cent of visitors choosing to stay in resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 22.3 per cent of occupancy, while 2.7 per cent of tourists opted to stay in hotels.
In 2024, the Maldives recorded a total of 2 million tourist arrivals. Building on that momentum, the Government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million tourists by the end of December 2025.
