The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has announced that MVR 282.3 million has been disbursed in 2025 under the Government’s Student Loan Scheme.

According to the latest statistics, a total of MVR 982.7 million has been disbursed under the scheme for 2024 and 2025 combined.

So far in 2025, 281 students have graduated through the scheme. This includes 162 males and 119 females. During the same period, 274 new students enrolled in the scheme, including 162 females and 112 males.

To date, 1,151 new students have enrolled in the Student Loan Scheme, with 608 females and 543 males. A total of 863 students have graduated through the scheme so far, including 500 males and 363 females.

At present, 1,642 students are studying under the scheme. This includes 978 females and 664 males.

The Government has taken significant steps to improve access to higher education through student loans. In March this year, work began to make all student loans compliant with Islamic finance principles. As part of this effort, the existing one per cent administrative fee was removed for both current and future loans issued for higher education and training in the Maldives and abroad.
