Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a state visit to the Maldives from July 25 to 26 at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first official visit to the Maldives since beginning his third term in office.
The visit comes at a historic moment as both nations celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India. This also coincides with the 60th Independence Day of Maldives.
During the two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Dr Muizzu are scheduled to hold high-level talks to strengthen bilateral ties and explore cooperation on regional matters. The leaders will also inaugurate joint development projects and witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across multiple sectors.
The state visit follows President Dr Muizzu’s official visit to India in October 2024. A significant outcome of that visit was the adoption of A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, a framework intended to guide bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
This upcoming visit is expected to reinforce the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and India, while opening new avenues for collaboration in line with evolving regional dynamics.
