Maldives Immigration has introduced streamlined digital services to simplify tourist visa extension procedures, as part of the “Maldives 2.0” initiative to enhance the travel experience in the country.

The updated system, which came into effect on Thursday, eliminates the need for applicants to re-enter previously submitted information. Existing data within the immigration system, including passport details and accommodation records, is now automatically retrieved, significantly reducing processing time and improving convenience.

Visa extensions can be applied for through the IMUGA portal. Applicants can enter their passport number or upload the passport biodata page, allowing the system to generate their details automatically. A passport-sized photograph taken within the past 12 months is also required as part of the application.

Submission of the passport biodata page is only necessary in specific circumstances, such as when a passport has been renewed or when discrepancies are identified between stored and current information. Changes to accommodation, including transfers between hotels or guesthouses, can be updated directly through the application process.

Processing times for visa services have been reduced, with extensions now expected to be completed within 48 hours.
