Member of Parliament for Inguraidhoo Constituency, Ibrahim Falah, has accused the previous administration of shielding those responsible for fraudulent sales and extortion linked to the K-Park Residences project.
Speaking during Monday’s parliamentary session, MP Falah alleged that the former government paid over MVR 800 million to individuals involved in the controversial housing scheme, despite having opportunities to deliver justice to the victims. He claimed the administration chose instead to protect those behind the project.
The K-Park Residences project, launched by Hanbo Company in 2016, became the subject of a major fraud investigation in 2023. Both Hanbo and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) reported the matter to the police, identifying Hanbo’s former minority shareholder, Hassan Mamdhooh, as the primary suspect.
Prosecutors later charged Mamdhooh with allegedly using a forged document bearing the name of Jin Shihu, Hanbo’s 95 per cent shareholder. The document was said to have been used to mislead a third party without Jin’s knowledge or consent.
MP Falah claimed the current Administration is committed to resolving the K-Park issue and ensuring justice for affected homebuyers. He also argued that if the matter is to be addressed in Parliament, both former presidents Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih should be summoned for questioning.
“If this matter is to be addressed in Parliament, then the two people who were in office when this case first started should be brought here, which is President Yameen and the president of the previous administration, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih,” he said.
He further alleged that former President Yameen had accepted money in connection with the K-Park project and should be investigated.
The resolution presented to Parliament emphasised that the unresolved status of the K-Park flats has affected the lives of many people, with the ongoing housing crisis cited as a root cause of broader social challenges. Delays in handing over the apartments, the resolution warned, would continue to impact families who had invested in the project.
The K-Park Residences remain incomplete, and no former government officials have publicly responded to the allegations.
