The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has published the preliminary list of students selected for the Government’s student loan scheme for higher education.

This year, the Government offered 500 loan slots for students pursuing studies in the Maldives and overseas. The ministry received 1,338 applications, of which 806 were deemed eligible. The provisional list of selected candidates is now available on the ministry’s website. Applicants will also be notified of any change in application status via message. The ministry has clarified that applicants who were not selected can access detailed reasons for their ineligibility through the same platform. A formal complaints process has been initiated to address any grievances or discrepancies until 1:00 p.m. on August 3, 2025

Students who qualified for the 10 slots allocated for pilot training in the Maldives have been assured loan access. Others pursuing studies in key priority areas outlined by the Government such as infrastructure, aviation, agriculture, and essential services are also being prioritised.

In line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s directive, the student loan scheme has been restructured to align with Islamic finance principles. Loans issued under the programme are now Shariah-compliant, with no interest or administrative fees applied.
