The Government has confirmed the establishment of a science laboratory and six new classrooms in Noonu Kudafari to support the permanent provision of A-Level education, as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure across the atolls.
The initiative, announced during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Kudafari as part of his tour of Noonu Atoll, will be financed through the 2026 State budget. The project aims to enhance local access to advanced secondary education and reduce the need for students to relocate to Malé or other regions.
Alongside the education investment, the President reviewed ongoing development works on the island and shared updates on new infrastructure projects aligned with the community’s long-term needs. Coastal protection measures will be undertaken in accordance with the island’s land use plan, with a focus on ensuring environmental sustainability and future economic resilience.
In addition, the Government plans to establish a new soundproof powerhouse at the current generator site, intended to modernise the island’s energy infrastructure. Plans for a Fitness and Recreation Centre are also set to move forward once a suitable plot of land is allocated by the island council.
