The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to construct a new four-storey building for Meyna School in Noonu Holhudhoo, aiming to enhance the island's educational infrastructure.
The project was officially awarded during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Holhudhoo as part of his tour across Noonu Atoll. During the visit, the President met with residents to discuss community development needs, including education.
Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu signed the agreement on behalf of the Government, while the Managing Director of MTCC signed on behalf of the company.
The new building will house 17 classrooms along with offices, administrative areas, a library, a computer lab, an audio-visual (A-V) room, a laboratory, and a prayer room. The development also includes a football pitch to facilitate sports and recreation for students.
Currently, primary and secondary classes are held in separate campuses at opposite ends of the island, causing logistical difficulties for students, teachers, and parents. Once completed, the new building will bring all grades under one roof, resolving space constraints and improving the overall learning environment.
The project was awarded for MVR 33.7 million, with a targeted completion period of 470 days.
