The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has reported that tourist arrivals reached 1.24 million as of 22 July, reflecting a 9.5 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Tourist traffic has seen renewed momentum this month, with 130,222 arrivals recorded so far in July - a 12.9 per cent rise from the same period in 2024. The daily average currently stands at 5,919, showing an improvement over May and June, which experienced slower figures due to the off-peak travel season. The highest number of daily arrivals this month was recorded on 12 July with 6,570 visitors, while the lowest was on 1 July with 5,219.
China continues to lead as the top source market, maintaining its position since 2024 and accounting for 14.1 per cent of total arrivals. Russia follows at 11.8 per cent, with the United Kingdom contributing 9.5 per cent. Italy and Germany have switched positions this year, representing 7.4 per cent and 7.2 per cent respectively.
In terms of accommodation, resorts and marinas dominate with 175 registered facilities, representing 68 per cent of total tourist beds. Guesthouses account for 24 per cent with 884 establishments, while 159 safari vessels and 16 hotels provide 5 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.
The inauguration of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), scheduled for this weekend, is expected to support the ongoing growth in arrivals. The terminal is designed to expand capacity and accommodate more flights during peak hours, which is anticipated to further strengthen tourism performance in the months ahead.
