President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on the Maldivian people to honour the sacrifices of past generations and work together to preserve the nation's independence.

Speaking at the official Independence Day ceremony held this morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), the President described freedom as the outcome of sincere courage and patriotism. He said it was not handed over freely but earned through years of national effort, and must now be safeguarded through unity and shared purpose.

He emphasised that it is every Maldivian’s responsibility to build on that foundation and pass it on to future generations. A nation, he noted, cannot endure if its people move in conflicting directions. Only through unity and a collective love for the nation can the Maldives remain strong and sovereign.

While development is visibly unfolding across the country, the President stressed that true progress is not defined by physical transformation alone; it must also be anchored in national values, identity, and self-improvement.

Reaffirming his Government’s core policy to empower the Maldivian people, the President said international support may be welcomed, when necessary, but meaningful progress must be locally led and aligned with national interests. He added that foreign ties remain important, provided they directly benefit the country.

Looking ahead, the President assured that his Administration would continue to work with determination. He said practical development projects will commence in the coming weeks and pledged to deliver on promises made to the public.
