Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has departed for Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

The conference is scheduled to take place from 29 to 31 July 2025 at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The high-level conference is organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations and will be held at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The event brings together Speakers of Parliament from around the world to discuss the role of legislatures in global governance, democracy, and sustainable development.

Held every five years, the conference serves as a platform to strengthen the parliamentary dimension of international affairs and address the democracy gap in global decision-making.

This year’s conference marks the culmination of two years of work by a Preparatory Committee comprising approximately 20 parliamentary Speakers from various regions. It is expected to be the largest gathering of its kind to date, with participation also extending to leaders from international organisations, academia, civil society, and the media.
