Maldives National Airlines has begun featuring the Thaana script for ‘Dhivehi Raajje’ on its aircraft, as part of the national celebrations commemorating 60 years of independence.

The change is intended to reflect the country’s language, heritage, and identity, reinforcing the national carrier’s role in representing the Maldives both at home and abroad.

The first aircraft to carry the updated branding is Maldivian's wide-body Airbus A330, which is currently serving at the new Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport. The new design will gradually be applied across the airline’s entire fleet, which includes 25 aircraft,  among them Airbus A330 and A320 models, five ATR aircraft, nine Dash 8s, and 11 Twin Otters.

According to the airline, the update is not only a visual enhancement but also a symbolic gesture to mark the country’s independence, sovereignty, and unity. The addition of the Thaana script on the aircraft aims to express national pride and reinforce the cultural significance of the language in a rapidly modernising aviation industry.
