President Disanayaka encourages Maldivian investment in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka has called on Maldivian investors to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka, highlighting key sectors such as infrastructure, information technology, fisheries, and tourism.
He made the remarks in Sinhala at a joint press conference with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 28 July, during his state visit to the Maldives.
President Disanayaka stressed the need to broaden cooperation between the two countries, particularly in trade and investment. He welcomed Maldivian expertise in tourism and invited the Maldives to invest in Sri Lanka’s growing hospitality sector.
He also reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to combatting illegal fishing in the region and to ensuring maritime safety and security.
Reflecting on the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, President Disanayaka noted the cultural and linguistic similarities between Sinhala and Dhivehi. He underscored the importance of preserving and strengthening these close historical connections.
President Disanayaka also extended an invitation to President Dr Muizzu to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka.
