Kaafu Dhiffushi Island Council has announced the allocation of four land plots from its designated tourism zone for tourism development, in a bid to boost the island’s economy and promote sustainable tourism.
The council stated the lands will be leased for a period of 50 years, with the aim of creating employment opportunities and enhancing Dhiffushi’s appeal as an eco-friendly tourist destination. The initiative aims to expand the island’s tourism sector, which already draws both international visitors and domestic holidaymakers.
Bidding for the plots will be open to all eligible businesses registered under the Maldives’ Business Registration Act. Interested parties may submit bids between 7 August and 14 August 2025, excluding public holidays. Registration for the auction will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. during this period. Applicants can either submit the required documents in person or send them by mail, accompanied by the official registration form.
The bid book is priced at MVR 25,000. The auction and bid opening are scheduled to take place on 21 August 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Dhiffushi Council Office.
The council’s move highlights growing momentum in Dhiffushi’s tourism sector and aims to establish the island as a leading destination for sustainable and community-inclusive tourism in the Maldives.
