A motorcyclist has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred on Friday evening along the Laamu Link Road near Kadhdhoo.

The collision happened at around 7:18 pm, when a motorcycle travelling from Fonadhoo to Gan struck two pedestrians crossing the road towards Kadhdhoo Airport. The crash left the rider, the passenger, a 64-year-old woman, and her grandchild injured.

The woman later died while receiving treatment at Gan Regional Hospital.

Police identified the rider as 37-year-old Mohamed Nausan, Lama Fonadhoo. He has been remanded in custody for 15 days while the investigation continues.

The incident comes amid rising concern over a spate of serious accidents on the Laamu Link Road. Earlier this week, a woman injured in a separate collision in Gan on 6 July died at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
