The Maldives has joined 30 Arab and Islamic nations in strongly condemning remarks by Israel regarding the “Vision of Greater Israel.”, warning that it represents a violation of international law and a direct threat to regional stability.
In a joint statement issued with the Secretaries-General of the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the ministers said the rhetoric disregards international law and the UN Charter. They also condemned Israel’s approval of settlement plans in the occupied West Bank’s E1 area, calling it a flagrant breach of Palestinian rights to an independent state within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement warned of Israel’s expansionist policies in the West Bank, including genocide, incursions into Palestinian towns, and attempts to alter the status of holy sites such as Al-Aqsa Mosque. It stressed that such actions fuel instability and undermine prospects for peace.
The ministers called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the lifting of the blockade, and unrestricted humanitarian access. They rejected any displacement of Palestinians and urged international accountability for Israeli violations.
In a statement on X, Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel said the Maldives would continue to stand with Palestine and advocate for peace, reaffirming the country’s long-standing support for Palestinian statehood.
The joint statement was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, Morocco, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, Mauritania, Sudan, Somalia, Türkiye, Bangladesh, Chad, the Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Indonesia, the Maldives, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal and Sierra Leone, along with the Secretaries-General of the Arab League, the OIC and the GCC.
