The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun setting up bus stops in Hulhumalé Phase 2 ahead of the allocation of 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme.
According to HDC, the new bus stops are being established to ensure residents moving into the area have convenient access to public transport.
The flats are being developed across 32 towers, with 16 built by India’s NBCC and the remaining 16 by JMC Projects. Each company is responsible for 2,000 flats, comprising 2,800 three-bedroom units and 1,200 two-bedroom units. The three-bedroom apartments are 900 square feet, while the two-bedroom units measure 650 square feet.
Meanwhile, the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has been signing agreements with flat recipients. As of 15 August, a total of 1,202 agreements had been finalised, according to the corporation.
Anticipating increased population density once the FDC flats are occupied, the Government has announced several new services to support the growing community in Hulhumalé Phase 2. These include the development of a major park in Farukolhufushi, which is scheduled to begin soon.
