Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that 50 students will complete the memorisation of the Holy Quran and be certified as Hafiz during Ramadan next year.
In a post on social media, the minister said the Administration’s initiative to train 500 Hafiz is progressing successfully. He described the programme as one of the key Islamic pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Government.
According to the minister, there are currently 20 Quran centres operating across the country, with 1,434 students engaged in memorisation classes. Of these, 783 are female students and 651 are male students. The majority are enrolled at the Quran Centre in Malé, where 424 students are studying, while another 155 students are learning at the Quran Centre in Hulhumalé.
As part of President Dr Muizzu’s commitments, the Government has doubled the monthly allowance for Hafiz from MVR 2,000 to MVR 4,000. In addition, Quran memorisation classes have been expanded, including new programmes launched in mosques and increased state support for privately run classes.
