The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been contracted with establishing Fitness and Recreation Centres (FRCs) on 63 inhabited islands of the country.

The agreement was signed on Monday at a ceremony held at Meerumaa. Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, signed on behalf of the Ministry, while Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of MACL, signed on behalf of the company. The event was attended by senior officials of the Ministry and several members of parliament.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Rafiu stated that the Government aims to ensure the establishment of FRCs in every inhabited island by the end of next year, fulfilling a key pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

To date, the Ministry has awarded contracts for the establishment of 87 FRCs. Of these, three centres have already been completed, while construction is underway on 28 others. The contract awarding process for 43 FRCs is ongoing, with an additional 21 expected to be contracted this year and next.
