The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of major works on the Design and Build of Shore Protection Structures at Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, specifically on the island’s third barrier.

According to MTCC, the completed scope includes 27,300 cubic metres of reclamation, along with 210 metres of geo bag revetment and 210 metres of rock apron. In addition, a 50-metre groyne has been constructed as part of the project.

While the main components have been finalised, the Company confirmed that temporary bed removal and levelling works remain outstanding. These will be completed as the final stage of the project.

The update underlines progress in coastal protection works in Hoarafushi, which are designed to strengthen the island’s resilience against erosion and enhance land use for residents.
