President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated a new ATM service in Alifu Alifu Maalhos, expanding banking facilities in the northern atoll.

The ATM was officially launched during the President’s visit to the island, where he withdrew cash to symbolically inaugurate the service. A commemorative bank card was also handed over to the Maalhos Island Council at the ceremony.

The new facility, operated by the Bank of Maldives (BML), will provide 24-hour self-service banking, including cash withdrawals, deposits, transfers, bill payments, as well as credit card and loan repayment services.

The Government, in partnership with BML, has pledged to install new ATMs in 100 islands across the country this year, in line with Administration’s commitment to ensure that every inhabited island has access to modern banking services. The initiative places special emphasis on extending financial services to rural communities to enhance accessibility for individuals and businesses alike.
