The Alifu Alifu Himandhoo harbour development project has been officially awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The agreement was signed by Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf, Deputy Managing Director of MTCC, while Minister of State Hassan Rasheed signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
MTCC stated that the project will address long-standing difficulties for the people of Himandhoo, an island with a population of 910. The development is expected to improve access during the western season, when residents have traditionally faced challenges using the harbour, while also resolving other issues affecting the community.
The contract, valued at MVR 27.51 million, requires MTCC to complete the project within 390 days. Planned works include the reclamation of 29,125.29 cubic metres of lagoon, the removal of 168 metres of rock, the construction of 104 metres of rock revetment, a 16-metre quay wall, and a 58-metre jetty.
Established in 1980, MTCC has since completed numerous infrastructure projects across the Maldives. Over the past 44 years, the Company has played an important role in both economic development and the delivery of social infrastructure.
