Maldivian athletes have renewed four national records at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships 2025 held in Otopeni, Romania; a major achievement for the nation’s swimming prospects.

In the women’s events, Meral Ayn Latheef broke her own record in the 400m Individual Medley, finishing with a time of 05:57.86. She had previously set the record in 2024 at the Devon County Age Group Championships in the United Kingdom with 06:09.10.

The women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay team also made history with a national record of 10:09.97. The record-breaking team consisted of Amna Thazkiya Mirsad, Lyba Hassan Manik, Ayaana Areef, and Meral Ayn Latheef. Their performance surpassed the previous national record of 10:50.31, achieved at the 19th Asian Games 2023.

In the men’s category, Looth Mohamed Hussain secured two new national records in breaststroke events. He clocked 01:10.95 in the 100m Breaststroke and 00:32.67 in the 50m Breaststroke, both at the same championship. His performance surpassed the previous records set by Mubal Ibrahim at the 21st World Aquatics Championships last year.
