President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated Dhaalu Valla  as part of Kudahuvadhoo to advance the island’s economic development.

The change was formalised on 21 August 2025, through Presidential Decree No. 21/2025, issued under the Decentralisation Act, which allows the President to alter administrative boundaries for economic or developmental purposes. The amendment updates Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 on the establishment of inhabited islands, with the revised appendix now published in the Government Gazette.

The decision delivers on a pledge made by President Dr Muizzu during a visit to Kudahuvadhoo in March this year, where he assured residents that Valla would be designated to strengthen the island’s economic base.
