The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has reported that tourist arrivals in the Maldives have reached 1.42 million so far this year, a 9.1 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the latest statistics, 127,676 tourists visited the country as of 19 August, representing a 5.3 per cent rise compared to the same date last year. The daily average in August has climbed to 6,720 arrivals, with the highest figure recorded on 16 August at 7,177 and the lowest on 8 August at 5,908.

Resorts continue to dominate the market, hosting 73.4 per cent of visitors. Guesthouses accounted for 21.9 per cent of arrivals, while hotels and safari vessels received 2.6 per cent and 2.0 per cent, respectively. Other facilities made up 0.1 per cent.

China remains the Maldives’ leading source market with 220,022 arrivals. Russia follows with 168,167, and the United Kingdom ranks third with 130,171. Italy (102,558) and Germany (97,980) complete the top five, having swapped positions compared to last year. India, the United States, France, Spain, and Switzerland make up the rest of the top ten markets.

Meanwhile, the Maldives has been stepping up tourism promotion efforts. Visit Maldives recently appointed One Piece actor Taz Skylar as a Global Ambassador, following the announcement in June that Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif would also serve in the role.
