Naagoashi tourism project to commence alongside development initiatives in Naivaadhoo

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that the Government will work to bring tourism to Haa Dhaalu Atoll while ensuring that projects in infrastructure, health, and education in Naivaadhoo progress without delay.
Speaking to Naivaadhoo residents, the President highlighted that tourism initiatives in Haa Dhaalu Atoll have been at a standstill will limited progress. As such, he noted that the current Administration has allocated several lagoons for tourism initiatives in the atoll.
In this regard, President Dr Muizzu added that Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has mobilised material and will commence tourism development in Naagoashi, with project finances secured through Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Maldives. He reiterated his Administration’s commitment to transforming the previously underserved atoll into a thriving tourism destination.
Turning to local development, the President noted that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with Naivaadhoo’s land reclamation and coastal protection project. He announced additional projects in the island, including road development, and construction of a modern futsal ground.
The President acknowledged delays in building the new school hall but assured that once the current issues are resolved, MTCC stands ready to accelerate construction. He also confirmed that the long-stalled sewerage project will be resumed, with arrangements in place to prevent financial obstacles for the contractor.
Discussing wider infrastructure, the President explained that road and harbour development would be tailored to local needs. While some islands have requested tarred roads and others prefer stone, Naivaadhoo’s specific requirements will guide its projects. He further noted that once the island council finalises a land-use plan, Government approval will be granted, enabling two lagoons to be utilised as income-generating resources for the community.
