President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo residents to expedite planning to derive economic benefits from Hirinaidhoo. He made the appeal while addressing residents during his ongoing tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The President noted that Hirinaidhoo was designated as part of Nellaidhoo in April this year to ensure that residents could benefit economically from the additional land. Highlighting that the area has not yet been utilised, he called on the council and community members to develop a plan to ensure its productive use.

At the community meeting, agreements were signed for the construction of a dinghy platform, road development, and 60 new housing units.

During his visit, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM services on the island and attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Nellaidhoo Health Centre Extension Building, the Fitness and Recreation Centre, the new Island Council Secretariat, and a new mosque.

Highlighting the initiatives launched, the President stated that the projects would proceed at full speed, bringing residents improved services, convenience, and overall development. Referring to the installation of ATMs, he noted that this was no ordinary achievement, adding that some critics had dismissed the service as routine without recognising the difficulties residents face when travelling to other islands for financial transactions.

President Dr Muizzu further emphasised that, alongside the ongoing projects, accelerating the completion of the water and sewerage system remained a priority. He also confirmed that shore protection to address erosion, as well as the development of a futsal and handball court, are scheduled for next year. Additionally, he acknowledged challenges faced by the education sector and confirmed that enhancements to school infrastructure are also planned.
