Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaran, known for its fertile agricultural lands and farming, has been placed at the centre of development priorities. Describing the significance of Nolhivaran’s agriculture to local livelihoods, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu urged the Island Council to discontinue charging fees on agricultural plots.

The President emphasised that this would allow residents to retain more of their earnings and reinvest directly in their farms, leading to stronger household incomes and a more resilient local economy. Speaking in this regard, he assured the Council that the Government would fully cooperate to put this policy into practice, adding that any and all approvals required will be made readily available. President Dr Muizzu further added that this would not only provide an immediate relief for farming families but would be economically beneficial for the whole community.

Apart from agriculture, the President also outlined a series of development initiatives aimed at improving everyday life on Nolhivaran. These range from healthcare and energy upgrades to recreational and educational facilities. Among the highlights are plans for a new 30-bed hospital, the resolution of ongoing power shortages through upgraded cabling and a relocated power plant, and investments in sporting infrastructure, such as a FIFA-standard football field and an indoor sports complex.

The Government has signed agreements to begin coastal protection work, enhance the island’s harbour, build new roads, and establish a dedicated shop to provide affordable agricultural supplies.

President Dr Muizzu assured the community that all these projects would be implemented with urgency, emphasising that Nolhivaran’s status as a populous island with a large land area makes it well-suited to become a model for sustainable development.
