President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the long-delayed Neykurendhoo School project will be completed this year, with the new building ready for use by the start of the next academic year.

The announcement was made during the community meeting with residents of Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo as part of his ongoing tour of the region. The President said the project, which had faced delays for years, is now scheduled to be completed before the year’s end, ensuring students can begin classes in the new facility from the coming school term. He also pledged to include a multipurpose hall for the school in next year’s budget, with construction expected to commence early in 2026.

Alongside education, the President highlighted progress on the harbour expansion project, confirming that work is underway to increase space by an additional 100 feet. He noted that necessary arrangements for the upgrade have already been completed and assured that the project will deliver expanded facilities, including a beach area and a designated zone for small boats.

The President also addressed pressing environmental challenges, stating that erosion control measures for the island will be included in next year’s budget. He added that development of a fitness and recreation centre, improvements to the health centre, and the establishment of a children’s park are also planned.
