Work on modernising the northern stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is advancing steadily, with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announcing the completion of a 24-metre sheet piling section.

The project, aimed at easing congestion and improving infrastructure on one of Malé City’s busiest roads, commenced officially on 21 August, 2025.

The road development, awarded to MTCC by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, will see the outer ring road expanded to four lanes. The contract, valued at MVR 144.5 million, was signed on 9 April 2025 and stipulates completion within 455 days. According to MTCC, demolition of embankments has already begun, with drainage systems, road markings, and traffic signage to be included in the finished works.

The first phase covers an 830-metre stretch of road between the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal and the Local Market. The plan involves reclaiming portions of the city’s lagoon to widen the road, enabling smoother movement for both motorists and pedestrians.
