Kulhudhuffushi City witnessed the launch of two landmark infrastructure projects on 26 August, as work commenced on the development of a new passenger terminal at Kulhudhuffushi Airport alongside the third phase of the city’s road modernisation programme.

The foundation stone for the new passenger terminal was laid at a ceremony held at Kulhudhuffushi Airport, officiated by Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with members of the Kulhudhuffushi City Council. The project, overseen by MACL, aims to expand and modernise the airport’s services to meet growing demand and improve passenger experience.

In a parallel development, the third phase of the Kulhudhuffushi Road Development Project was also inaugurated at a separate ceremony. Minister of State for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Hassan Rasheed officiated the event, beginning work on the 3.45-kilometre stretch of road. The project has been awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) and is scheduled for completion within 730 days.

The roadworks will prioritise areas housing key public institutions and include the installation of modern drainage systems to address long-standing flooding concerns. Both projects were launched during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll, where he is meeting with residents and local councils to discuss development priorities.
