Maldives and China discuss strengthening bilateral ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, met on Sunday to discuss advancing economic development, expanding trade and investment, enhancing security cooperation, and fostering people-to-people exchanges between Maldives and China.
During the meeting at the Tianjin Yingbin Hotel, President Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives in achieving its national development goals. He emphasised the importance of continuing a results-oriented partnership that would deliver tangible benefits to both nations.
President Dr Muizzu expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Chinese Government and conveyed his delight at visiting China for the second time in an official capacity. He thanked President Xi for the opportunity to strengthen cooperation further and underscored the enduring friendship between the Maldives and China. On his official X account, the President expressed confidence that the the new strategic framework will further benefit the citizens of both nations.
Both leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations under the China–Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (2024–2028), pledging to deepen cooperation across multiple fields and build on the foundation of decades of close ties.
The meeting concluded with both Presidents reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing cooperation and strengthening the partnership between the Maldives and China.
