President, Li Xi agree to strengthen cooperation and promote regional stability in Beijing talks

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and senior Chinese leader Li Xi have agreed on the importance of deepening practical cooperation and promoting regional peace and stability, during their meeting in Beijing on 2 September.

The talks were held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where Li Xi, Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, represented President Xi Jinping.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening ties with China across key sectors, describing the partnership as grounded in mutual trust and genuine friendship. He also noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit offers a valuable platform for international engagement.

Li Xi reiterated China’s view that translating diplomatic ties into practical outcomes was essential for both countries, and stressed shared priorities in advancing stability and peace in the region. The meeting concluded with a banquet hosted by Li Xi in honour of President Dr Muizzu, reflecting the close diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
