The Government is set to begin nationwide consultations tomorrow to gather public feedback for the 20-year National Development Plan, Viluntheri Raajje 2045, which aims to shape the Maldives’ long-term vision for sustainable growth and resilience.
The consultation tour will begin in Kaafu Guraidhoo, where the team will meet with the island council and local residents. During the visit, participants will be invited to share their views on the country’s socio-economic development priorities and overall vision for the future.
According to officials, the consultation process will extend to all inhabited islands of the Maldives. Island and atoll councils, local government offices, businesses, community organisations, and individuals, including fishermen, will be encouraged to take part.
The 20-year National Development Plan is a central vision of the current Administration to make the Maldives a developed nation by 2040. The Government said the plan will be legally binding and is designed to ensure that resources are utilised sustainably, with policies aligned to the best interests of the country and its people.
In addition, the plan seeks to prepare the Maldives to adapt to global economic and technological shifts, including the impacts of climate change, while promoting national prosperity and resilience in an increasingly competitive international environment.
