President Dr Mohamed Muizzu graced the closing ceremony of the Dhiraagu Maldives Junior Open 2025 badminton tournament as the Guest of Honour, which concluded on 6 September, 2025, at the Indoor Badminton Court in Malé City.

The President was welcomed by former Minister of Ahmed Mahloof, who also serves as President of The Badminton Club, the organiser of the tournament in partnership with the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM).

During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu awarded medals and trophies to the winners of the men’s and women’s singles in the Special Olympics category, as well as in the Paralympics and Under-9 events.

The Dhiraagu Maldives Junior Open 2025, which ran from 1 to 6 September, is the first international junior badminton tournament hosted in the Maldives. A total of 347 athletes from eight countries competed, playing more than 750 matches across singles and doubles categories. The competition featured age groups from under-9 to under-19, in addition to para-badminton and Special Olympics categories.

International representation included 30 players from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and China, who competed alongside Maldivian athletes. Fifteen athletes from the Special Olympics Committee of Maldives also participated, while players from local and atoll-based academies strengthened the domestic presence at the event.
