Gaafu Alifu becomes 10th atoll with ATMs in all inhabited islands, as Bank of Maldives (BML) launches new services in Kondey and Kanduhulhudhoo to complete coverage under its nationwide banking access initiative.
The new ATMs were inaugurated by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muthathalib at a ceremony attended by BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and senior officials of the bank.
Available 24 hours a day, the ATMs will provide essential banking services such as cash withdrawals and deposits. The initiative forms part of the BML project, which seeks to ensure that every inhabited island has direct access to banking facilities.
Speaking at the event, BML CEO Mohamed Shareef said the expansion reflects the bank’s commitment to bringing services closer to customers. He noted that residents of the atoll will no longer need to travel to neighbouring islands for basic banking, making services more accessible for both individuals and businesses.
BML operates the largest banking network in the country, with 42 branches across all 20 atolls, 158 self-service banking centres, 217 ATMs, and a comprehensive range of digital banking services.
